The Infant from the age of six weeks begins to notice and study his hand and raise his head. As the months go by he or she begins to coordinate more movements and respond more to his or her environment and the people in it. At Mary's Montessori we provide an environment that meets the changing and growing needs of the infant as he or she develops physically, socially, and intellectually.
Children develop and absorb language from the earliest age. At Mary's Montessori we expose all children to a rich and varied language experience. We sing, recite poetry, and converse with each child with patience and interest.
Toddlers delight in discovering they can effect change in their environment and have an intense need for exploration. We provide opportunities for each child to discover how he or she can effect change and we help satisfy his or her need to explore by enriching the 'prepared environment' for exploration and discovery. We help children develop control over their large muscles for walking, climbing, and balancing, and over their small muscles for grasping, manipulating, and releasing objects. We help them to learn about themselves and their world.
Infants and toddlers grow exponentially through participation in circle time. Songs, dance, finger plays, and puppet shows enhance their development in movement, coordination, and intellect and support their love of living and learning.
